Travelling without your significant other. Is it totally crazy and just plain wrong?
Not at all.
Everyone has a different approach to travel; for some, being the lone wolf is best.
I’m going to assume that anyone actively seeking out this sort of advice wants to travel alone for wholly innocent reasons — namely, a burning desire to see the world –and nothing nefarious (ahem…Thai school girls, cough…Kuta cowboys).

My son is still too young (under a year) to go to Disney World in Orlando but I’m sure it will be on the list of places to go once he is old enough. I have only been once and that was in high school on a spring break trip to the Orlando - Daytona area. Walt Disney has always seemed to shine very bright through generations past and onward into the future.

Traveling is a choice. So why do some people choose travel even if there’s nowhere they really want to go?

I was traveling in northern Vietnam when I first noticed the phenomenon of the dutiful backpacker.
It is nearly impossible to travel in Southeast Asia without parallels being drawn to what the locals call “The American War,” and my fellow travelers and I would often make jokes in poor taste about the duration of our “tours of duty” or going for some “R&R.”

As for me, seafood and coastal dining is an automatic decision when it comes to eating out while on vacation, especially in Jekyll Island, Georgia. You wouldn’t have to ask me twice to go check out an eating establishment focussing on seafood. When you think about it, seafood is probably the most fresh edible commodity when you are right on the coast. Everything else (beef, chicken, veges etc.) comes from miles around and frequently flown in from very far away. From living in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, I get very excited about making plans to go to whichever coast (east, south or west) to delve into the yum yums of coastal fare.

Could he be #2 - The English Teacher? / Photo by Rene Ehrnhardt
From South America to Southeast Asia, from the Middle East to the Middle Kingdom, every town that sees tourists has one: the ex-pat bar.
It’s never hard to find your way there – all you need to do is follow the American music which is old enough to feel stale without being old enough to feel hip and look for a chalkboard sign advertising a European football match.

Inner travel helps you learn more about yourself - and just as importantly, other cultures.

It often seems the highest compliment a travel experience can get is, “ohhh, how authentic.” Authenticity is the lauded stamp supposedly verifying the traveler has really made contact with another culture.

We can all get over Acoustic Guitar Guy playing Jack Johnson in the corner.
We intrinsically know that the older dude from Montreal is going to fart in his sleep. And we accept that the front desk lady is going to lie about not having quarters, even though she has seven left in the drawer.

Summer’s the peak season for taking a trip. Every year, when the days start to heat up, it’s a perfect time to go somewhere new – whether to a sun-drenched beach on a distant shore, or a uniquely creative vision in a darkened theater.

For those who find Europe to be too expensive, Argentina—especially Buenos Aires—has become the Next Big Deal.

Their vineyards are turning out good vintages, the architecture is Paris-lite, there is an abundance of culture and adventure, and it’s all there to be had for a fraction of the cost.
