When you think of incredible beaches, New York may not be the first place that comes to mind. However, Long Island, particularly the area know as The Hamptons, has long been the preferred beach destination for those who can afford to vacation anywhere on Earth.
The east end of Long Island, which is home to East Hampton and Montauk, sticks nearly one hundred miles out into the Atlantic Ocean. The nearby Gulf Stream blesses the peninsula with relatively moderate temperatures and it’s bounded by water on 3 sides so the fishing in incredible. A former whaling port, Montauk is now home to both the largest commercial and sport fishing fleets in the State of New York. Anglers from new York CIty take the train here to catch striped bass, blues, sharks and other ocean species.

Nearly 40 million tourists from around the world visit New York City every year. What they find is a bustling metropolis, dense with museums, parks, theaters, shops, famous buildings and inhabitants as diverse as themselves.
Far from its sometimes mythical image, New York is one of the safest large cities for tourists anywhere on the globe. It has the lowest crime rate of any major American city. For a city with over 8 million inhabitants and a population density over 26,000 per square mile (Manhattan is nearly 67,000 per square mile), that’s remarkable.

Park Avenue through the 1930s was known as ‘the street where the rich people lived’. To have an apartment there was ‘to have arrived’. When you arrive you’ll see fewer apartments and a new kind of ‘rich people’ - multi-national corporate headquarters.
Some of the world’s most deservedly well-known architecture is sited along this wide boulevard that, for tourism purposes begins at Grand Central Station.

The heart of New York City in so many ways, this neon-lit district is the Las Vegas of Manhattan. For nearly twenty years, apart from Broadway shows, the area was almost unbearable owing to the seedy inhabitants and shops. No more.
Originally developed in the 1830s by the wealthy Astor family as a nose-in-the-air neighborhood, the current name came into being when the New York Times established itself there in 1906. When the subways made it to the 42nd Street, the city’s theater producers moved from lower Manhattan, filling 76 theaters by 1928.

With all the property acquisition of famous buildings over the last thirty years there is still, thankfully, one that has retained its original name: The Chrysler Building.
Though the Chrysler Corporation, long since acquired by Daimler-Benz, moved out in the mid-1950s, the building that bears its name remains one of the world’s most recognizable structures.
Its distinctive Art Deco design represents the pinnacle of that architectural movement. A 77-story rectangular building, the upper floors are a wonderland of steel-clad arches garnished with automotive-themed gargoyles. Those arches form a narrowing cascade to the building’s once-record breaking 1,048 foot peak, where a spire caps the work.

Without a doubt, the most beautiful time of the year in the Hudson Valley of New York State is Autumn, when the weather is ideal and the scenery is breathtaking. The area’s tourism bureau offers several driving itineraries for self-guided Fall foliage tours, although there aren’t many places you can drive where you won’t be awestruck by the stunning display of colors.

These delightful drives can be combined with visits to the region’s many historic sites - the whole area is a National Historic Landmark District - or cultural events, interesting museums and eclectic array of festivals and fairs that will draw your attention and vie for your time.
