Illustration: Columbus landing in the New World, before proceeding to pillage. He is NOT one of our explorers.
History is filled with tyrants and bloodshed, all in the name of discovering new lands. Here are the few that kept it honourable.

They say some cultures believe you steal their soul when snapping their picture. Find out how to interact with the locals without dooming them to limbo.

Other than fellow foreign backpackers, my early photo albums rarely have shots of actual people.

For the last few years, I have been looking for a solid list of travel songs that doesn’t seem too cliche.
However, the lists always end up naming On The Road Again, and These Boot Were Made For Walking as ideal songs for the road.
Instead of sitting around and complaining about the content of internet travel song lists, I’ve decided to create my own.

Whenever I book a trip, I always opt for the travel insurance. I can never predict what may happen and, without adequate protection, all of the money I have paid for airline tickets, rentals, excursions, lodging and the like can just be washed down the drain and there’s nothing I can do about it.
For a long vacation or a trip overseas, this can amount to a significant amount of money that you cannot afford to lose. Perhaps you’ve been saving for a year or more to pay for the trip. Even worse is when you put it on credit cards and have to pay it off (plus interest) anyway, without ever enjoying it.

So you’ve taken the family on a whirlwind tour of the southeast and find yourself in the lovely metropolis of Atlanta. There are plenty of enticing Atlanta attractions that appeal to adults, but what can you do to entertain the kids?
Although I’m not sure why a landlocked city owns bragging rights to the world’s largest aquarium, Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta is flush with 8,000,000 gallons of water and the creatures needed to make it come alive. There are five themed galleries-Cold Water Quest, Tropical Diver, River Scout Georgia Explorer and Ocean Voyager and you’ll want to see them all. This place is highly interactive with touch pools, a giant see through underwater tunnel and an educational 4D Wondershow. Set aside a whole

Turns out not everyone loves Americans. For Rachel Friedman, the shock of seeing her nation from abroad led to feelings of betrayal, denial and awakening.

My first solo trip abroad was less than a year after 9/11.
Life in the U.S. was still tense, especially on the East coast, where I was a junior in college.
Airports were enveloped in almost sanctuary-like silence. While I waited to board my flight to Dublin I watched people remove shoes and sweaters and belts.

When returning home from long trips abroad, I’m always surprised by how much has changed. Somehow, I seem to have a subconscious expectation that life was on pause ?? just waiting for me to come back and pick up where I left off.
Of course, that isn’t how it works.
I come back to find out that my circle of friends isn’t quite the same. Some people aren’t talking to each other anymore. Old couples have broken up, and new ones have formed. Old roommates have finished school and moved away.

Forget flying halfway around the world to find happiness. Christine Garvin shows you how to look locally.

Much like the billion others who read Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, I fought the immediate urge to chuck my job, rent, friends and credit card bills and book the first available flight to India so that I could meditate all of my problems away.

The decision to travel with our children was not one my husband and I took lightly. We both had always wanted to travel, but I was too scared to take the leap of faith.
As parents we wanted our children to experience what the world had to offer.
Our family had also been through an extremely tough time before our trip. We had experienced death and change on a profound scale, and our marriage had only just managed to survive.
