As I waited for the monorail that would take me to my connecting gate at O’Hare Airport, the sun rose and painted red the lower edges of the Chicago sky.
It was the color of the elderly Sikh’s turban in Jaipur, the man who had sold me a bottle of water between handing out change to the pilgrims who passed his shop.

The decision to travel with our children was not one my husband and I took lightly. We both had always wanted to travel, but I was too scared to take the leap of faith.
As parents we wanted our children to experience what the world had to offer.
Our family had also been through an extremely tough time before our trip. We had experienced death and change on a profound scale, and our marriage had only just managed to survive.

Your dreams on the road can offer insight into yourself and your journey. Tim Patterson shares his own experiences.
I press my tongue against a tooth in the back of my mouth. It wiggles.
“That’s weird,” I think, feeling a little anxious. After all, I’m 25 years old. My baby teeth are all gone and I’m way too young to start thinking about dentures.

Self-catering is an essential element in any backpacker’s budget strategy.
You can control how often you move from city to city and where you stay en route, and of course you can restrict the cost and number of your daytime activities as needed.
But you have to eat, and that’s not going to change no matter how much cash is left in your account.

We??re in week three of a nation-wide civil uprising in response to the fraudulent December 27th Presidential elections in Kenya, and among the areas most affected are the slums of Nairobi.
The massive civil unrest began upon the announcement of the incumbent President Mwai Kibaki??s electoral victory, despite numerous local and international observers claiming widespread fraud.

???I have traveled a great deal in Concord,??? said Henry Thoreau, a native of??wait for it??Concord, Massachusetts.
In fact, Thoreau was an intrepid traveler for his day and age, vagabonding to Cape Cod and the vast wilderness of the Maine Woods. The great prophet of enlightened self-reliance claimed to have done most of his traveling in his own hometown.

Please note: This is a sponsored post.
For me, luxury travel usually means little more than clean sheets, hot water and black coffee in the morning. Camping on a beach or staying with local villagers makes me just as happy as sipping a cocktail next to an elegantly landscaped plunge pool.
But even though vagabonding travelers like me have been known to sneer at expensive luxury resorts and dismiss their pampered guests as out of touch with reality, I recognize that the luxury travel experience, done well, can be a beautiful thing.

It??s only three hours into your eight-hour flight and the little kid sitting behind you has howled non-stop since take off.
Your head is throbbing and you??re ready to smother the brat with a pillow.
A drink would really hit the spot. Maybe two.
Problem is, most drinks available on planes leave you thirsty, tired and a frequent visitor to the tiny aircraft bathrooms.

There are few things in the world that are universal. You might think showering is one of them. How many variations could there be?
The answer - more than you can imagine. Consider the various elements involved: plumbing, setting, temperature, interior design…fauna.
I had my first taste of unique plumbing in Ireland. In the hostels where I was staying, the shower heads had no cold or hot taps, just one big knob.

You are 25 metres below the ocean, scuba diving for the first time.
After following your guide into an old sunken ship, suddenly, you lose sight of him. You are lost, running out of air. You taste fear in the back of your throat.
You reflect on your life, the accomplishments, regrets, past memories, things you had always wanted to do yet never got around to doing.
