When the principal attraction of a trip is looking at other people’s lives, there’s a fine line between human interest and human zoo.

While much of Africa is best known for its stunning wildlife and superlative National Parks, Ethiopia’s main travel draws are scenic natural beauty and fascinating people.
Therefore, it seemed only natural that when our overland trip passed through Ethiopia, we took a detour to the Omo Valley, an area rich in colorful tribes.

You have a copy of An Inconvenient Truth on your nightstand that you??at some point??intend on reading. You carry the plastic Nalgene water bottle to refill at instead of buying bottled water.
You may even have switched to energy-saving fluorescent bulbs, started buying local from farmer’s markets, and are an iTunes devotee (not because of the instant gratification, but to reduce plastic consumption).

Every year, tourists flock to Southeast Asia, in hopes of netting the tropical ocean dream.
Khaosan Road, Bangkok??s backpacker coconut cream pie, proves that not only can you sleep for three dollars a night, but you can also be anyone you want in Paradise.
For some, this means picking up dreadlocks while exiting Watson??s pharmacy, and wearing more tie-dye than would fit in the back of a VW van.

It??s been two years since Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans. Slowly but surely, tourists are returning.
Coupled with the city’s old bag of tricks is a new draw card: the chance to glimpse New Orleans’ destruction firsthand.

As some of you who are on holiday may already know, today is World Tourism Day, celebrated on September 27th every year since 1980. It is held on this date because it marks one of the most important milestones in the tourist industry- the adoption of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) Statutes, on this very day in 1970.

In 2003, at the fifteenth session of the UNWTO General Assembly, it was decided that a host country be designated for the World Tourism Day annual celebrations. The order of host continents was eventually established like this: Europe in 2006, Asia in 2007, South America in 2008 and Africa in 2009.

The history of wines and vineyards is so old that it comes as no surprise that it is often confused with the history of man. The Bible first noted the creation of wine by Noel, who created a vineyard in which he grew the grapes for the vital juice. He is known as the creator of this wonderful drink.
The status of wine has evolved in Western society over generations, yet it has always been a vital part of our everyday lives. It is a symbol of celebration, health and happiness, and is enjoyed by all on any occasion. In modern society, however, the good stuff is now also a symbol of commercialism, with a specific role in tourism.

Tourism is the world’s largest export, yet it is ephemeral, produced within an encounter, usually fleeting, between host and guest. It has enormous growth potential; almost every country desires an expansion in this sector.
Yet whether and how to grow is not nearly as straightforward as one might hope.
Because each tourist and each native brings along a unique jumble of expectations, knowledge, power, and aspirations, multiplying tourist encounters transforms the tourist and the native, and can permanently alter the social and political contexts in which they live.
