Christopher Columbus set off to discover The New World about five centuries ago. Today, Virgin Airlines is looking to offer galactic tours.
Can an explorer of old still teach us anything about travel?
Back in his time, Columbus struggled to talk anyone into financing his dreams. He campaigned for funding in 1485 and appealed to the courts of Portugal, England and Spain continuously until he finally set sail in August of 1492.

A laptop can be a handy tool to have on the road, especially if you’re blogging about your adventures or attempting to become an LIP (Location Independent Professional).
In previous articles I’ve given advice about what to look for in a perfect travel laptop, essential items to have in your pack to go with it, and how to keep it from getting lost, stolen or broken along the way.

You get the idea. It’s been a long time since I first created Brave New Traveler.
During that time I’ve met some amazing people, celebrated small milestones, and continued to plug away.
Some realizations: creating a sustainable blog model is much harder than it looks. It’s not like you can slap up some content (along with a strip or two of Google ads) and expect the money to roll in.

This is Part III of a four part series on laptop travel.
When traveling with a laptop, there’s a significant risk that it could fall victim to one of three potential disasters - lost, stolen or broken.

This is Part II in our series on Laptop Travel. Read Part I here.
So now that you’ve got your perfect travel laptop picked out, what are you going to take with it?
Here’s a run-down of accessories you’re going to want in your pack before heading off into the great unknown.
1. Charger. A no-brainer really, but it’s got to be on the list. The best thing about laptops is that because the wall charger has to convert AC to DC for the computer to work, they almost always have a voltage converter. This is Part I of a new series on laptop travel.
Many people choose to travel with their laptops these days. And I’m not talking about business travelers; I’m talking about backpackers.
I should know. I lugged my 12″ Powerbook G4 around the world. And I couldn’t help but notice other grungy backpackers whip out laptops in hostels, backpacker cafes, and airports.

I know a bugbear of many of you is being charged for internet access at luxury hotels.? You’re already paying a top rate and perhaps understandably don’t expect to have to be charged for your internet usage.? Marriott has announced that five of its brands (Courtyard, Residence Inn, Fairfield Inn, TownePlace Suites and SpringHill Suites) now offer guests free WiFi hotels in the U.S. and Canada.? That’s great to hear, but what about extending this to other locations and other brands?? What about Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott and Bulgari?
