Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance to visit all of the State Beaches in California-there are 63 of them at last count. However, I’ve been very impressed with those along the central California coast between San Francisco and Monterrey.

If you take this incredibly scenic drive on Route 1, you’ll enjoy an have the chance to stop at numerous state beaches along the way. My favorites were both rugged and lonesome, even during the dog days of August, and the only company were flocks of shore birds and frolicking sea lions.

Only by ferry or seaplane can you access the beautiful San Juan Islands and that is what makes this

destination so special and pristine. The San Juan Islands are made up of Lopez, Orcas, Shaw and San Juan Island. Orcas Island to many is home to the mighty killer whale and one can watch them cruise the shoreline either by sea kayak and sometimes from land. Lopez Island is the most rural of the three major islands and offers the visitor frequent viewings of bald eagles, otters, seals and the orca whale. Shaw Island is definitely the quietest of all the islands offering the visitor a primitive environment where one can totally detach from reality and let go.

It was the curious name that piqued my interest in this destination. What is a kettle moraine and why would they name a forest after it? The unusual name is a geological term describing the terrain in the area that was scoured by glaciers during one of the last ice ages. The kettles, or depressions, were caused when buried ice melted and left hundreds of ponds and lakes in their places.
Then, I looked at the map and became even more curious. Here in Colorado, our forests are epic in size, but this Wisconsin State Forest is strung out into 5 different small sections that span a hundred miles. The Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive is the thread that stitches them all together as it winds through southeastern Wisconsin.

Television news bombards us daily with images of global destruction, famine, disease, and wars.
No wonder we despair at the future mankind is forging for itself, one filled with hopelessness and religious fanatics hiding behind guns.
However, what the news does not show is a modified trend amongst the citizens of the world - a transfer from salvation to liberation; a change in mindset and taking responsibility, teaching other like-minded individuals by example.

Ask anybody and the typical answer you will get is that there is nothing in Alabama that is of special interest to the tourist. Yet tourism happens to be big business in the state and is, in fact, the state??s biggest industry, generating well over $10 billion in revenue each year.
The key to Alabama??s attractiveness as a tourist destination is above all its rural and agricultural orientation punched with great hospitality, delectable cuisine, top notch Alabama motels, hotels andGulf Coast resorts, and a globally well-known events calendar with many festivals and performances thrown in.
