Sure, it’s the gambling capital of the universe, but there are some people who go to Las Vegas and don’t gamble a cent. I’m one of them. I don’t have any high minded reasons not to gamble. I think it’s a perfectly valid way to pass your time. It’s just that when I spend money, I like to see a little something for it and I never do. So, I go to shows, instead.
I recently attended Cirque Du Soleil’s Mystere at the Treasure Island hotel and casino and all I can say is “wow, wow, wow!”. As a permanent fixture on the strip, Mystere has a theater that was built just for it. You can imagine the possibilities this presents - an articulated floor that rises and falls in sections, props and fixtures that are perfectly hidden away when not in use, orchestra lofts instead of a pits and seating areas that give every spectator a perfect view of the action.

In the last few days, motor buffs have been arriving in Tokyo in their tens of thousands, as the 40th Tokyo Motor Show has returned to the Makuhari Messe in Chiba City, 40km from the Japanese capital. This event, one of the most important on the motor industry calendar, is a showcase of the latest and most dynamic machines of the future.

The show is hosted by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) and is a recognised international show by the industry’s leading body, the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles. It is a showcase of new cars currently in production and recently designed concept cars, yet the latter is more frequently seen at this event. In recent years, however, the Tokyo Motor Show is becoming widely renowned for displaying more flamboyant designs of concept cars, such as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, as shown in the photo.

More than 40,000 people are getting ready for the most important indoor event in Finland, and one of the most waited-for of the year for horse lovers.
The competition, lasting four days, is due to take place at the Hartwell Areena in Helsinki. As the name suggests, it is more than a display of equestrian skill- it is also a extraordinary cultural event.
A children’s matinee will be held on Sunday morning, so that the little ones will not miss out. There will also be a “Horse Expo” with more than 60 stands exhibiting and selling goods necessary for horse owners and stables.

There are few things in the world that are universal. You might think showering is one of them. How many variations could there be?
The answer - more than you can imagine. Consider the various elements involved: plumbing, setting, temperature, interior design…fauna.
I had my first taste of unique plumbing in Ireland. In the hostels where I was staying, the shower heads had no cold or hot taps, just one big knob.
