Traveling Solo: How to Tell Your Partner You Want to Travel?Alone

Travelling without your significant other. Is it totally crazy and just plain wrong?

Not at all.

Everyone has a different approach to travel; for some, being the lone wolf is best.

I’m going to assume that anyone actively seeking out this sort of advice wants to travel alone for wholly innocent reasons — namely, a burning desire to see the world –and nothing nefarious (ahem…Thai school girls, cough…Kuta cowboys).

Sounding Retreat: Why Seasoned Travelers Aren?t Afraid To Call It Quits

Cycling in Vietnam / Photo Shoot Into The Sun

It was eerily similar to swimming.

Water gushed through my helmet, down my hood, and into my face. My gloves and shorts were saturated, weighted sponges clutching my skin. Peeking out from worn sandals, my toes lapped up street water with each pedal stroke.

I call it the People Chain. It’s like Facebook, offline, with edge.

The idea is to get random contacts in random places and see where it leads you. Might be a palace, might be a dark alley, but knowing anyone here who knows anyone there usually leads everywhere.

I’m in Nicaragua, wearing a new swimsuit, paddling away from a deserted beach.

I graduated college with a hankering to travel. A contact in Nicaragua offered me free room and board to teach English, with a bonus of daily surf lessons.

The Gutsy Girl?s Guide To Drinking Alone

Recently I was talking to a female friend of mine - a friend who is incredibly gutsy when it comes to solo travel.

We were talking about my bar-hopping habit when I travel solo, and she mentioned how impressed she was by my ability to wander into a local drinking hole on the road and make myself at home.

Do Lonely Planet Writers Go To Hell? Thomas Kohnstamm Might.

Self-confessed fibber Thomas Kohnstamm is certainly taking his best shot at it.

Do Lonely Planet Writers Go To Hell? Thomas Kohnstamm Might.

LP writer Thomas Kohnstamm…in hell.

I’ve always been a big fan of Lonely Planet’s guidebooks.

I love their sassy, youthful tone, their emphasis on low-impact and alternative travel options, their rejection of freebies from bigwig hotel chains, and the way their authors manage to find vegetarian-friendly budget options worldwide.

Staying with a host family can be such a great experience, it’s hard to know how to thank your hosts properly.

7 Ways To Thank Someone For Staying At Their Home

The best memories of my recent trip to Ecuador come from the family in Quito that graciously opened their home to me.

After nearly two months of traveling, home-cooked meals and real beds with clean sheets were just what I needed. Plus, my host-family had lived in Quito for decades and were eager to share their city with me.

Destin Cruises for Everyone

I rarely make a trip that’s anywhere near the water without taking a boat ride of some sort. There’s no substitute for cruising on a paddle wheeler across Lake Tahoe, paddling a sea kayak in Baja or casting over the rail on fishing party boat at the Jersey Shore.

Destin Cruises for Everyone

If you’re anything like me, you’ll love Destin, Florida, where you can enjoy boating of all kinds. In fact, in Destin you could go from one unique boat trip to another from dawn until dusk.
