After the desert sun goes down over San Jacinto Mountain, Palm Springs really heats up. The nightlife is colorful, diverse and exciting with a casually elegant vibe that’s all California.
Hunters is a trendy club with spirited DJs, go go dancers and a pounding dance floor that gets busier and wilder as the night goes on. While the party’s getting started, play billards, surf the ‘net or lounge on the finely misted outdoor terrace with a happy hour special. It’s all good.Â
The Oasis has charismatic DJs running an amazing sound system, two bars, an indoor courtyard, a game room, theme nights, a piano bar with sing a longs, and perhaps the biggest dance floor you’ve ever seen. And The Oasis stays open until 4 am!

Real communication is difficult / Photo BartPogoda
Travelers to Asia know the feeling.
A hundred pairs of eyes bear down on you, judging you, observing you. As a foreigner, you’re a tourist, a D-level celebrity, a possible criminal and a source of information on foreign affairs. You’re simply different.

Wedding season arrives with a flourish in June each year and celebrating the union of family members or friends is often the impetus for summer travel.
If you’re very, very lucky, you may get an invitation to attend a Long Island wedding at The Inn at Fox Hollow this year. The famed Gold Coast of Long Island in New York was a favored retreat of the rich, famous and powerful in the early 20th century and Fox Hollow carries on the tradition of that opulent era with sophistication and elegance.

When looking back through the mystique of history, we tend to impose super-human status to those who stood up for their beliefs in a revolutionary way.
For some of them, the decision to act was conscious defiance to the status quo. For others, they were simply in the right place at the wrong time, and found themselves acting on behalf of others lacking the courage to speak out.

Movies have the power to inspire, to take us on a trip without requiring us to get off the couch.

A scene from “O Brother Where Art Thou?”
One traveling garden gnome. A star-crossed couple on a sinking ocean liner. Eleven crooks on a European heist. And Bond??”James Bond.
These are just four of the travelers who didn’t make it onto our roundup of the twenty greatest travel films of all time. Not because we didn’t like Amelie, Titanic, Ocean’s 11 or the Bond movies, mind you, but because we just didn’t have the space.

It??™s hard not to love David Farley.
He??™s the poster-child of a Walking Party travel writer. He eloped to Italy with fellow travel writer Jessie Sholl. He watched a pig get slaughtered outside of Prague and used that for his contribution to Traveler??™s Tales Prague (which he also co-edited with Sholl).
More recently he has become a sort of Indiana Jones for the Gen-X set (his current book is on the search for Jesus Christ??™s foreskin which, up until 1983, was allegedly preserved in the Italian hill-town of Calcata).

Knowing ourselves and our communities, and seeing them in unison, is the first step in fostering the divine world spirit.
A wise Indian man once said to me, “Perfection is a rare and sporadic event.” For travelers especially, this rings true.
From a traveler’s perspective, every foreign country is a chance for something to go ridiculously, horribly amok.
