While every trip has the potential to include a traveler’s moment, it isn’t something that can be forced or expected.

As I waited for the monorail that would take me to my connecting gate at O’Hare Airport, the sun rose and painted red the lower edges of the Chicago sky.
It was the color of the elderly Sikh’s turban in Jaipur, the man who had sold me a bottle of water between handing out change to the pilgrims who passed his shop.

Planning a destination wedding can seem like a daunting task. Here’s what you need to know.

Destination weddings have become increasingly popular in recent years, and a growing number of couples say they’d like to celebrate their special day in an exotic location.
Planning a destination wedding, however, can seem overwhelming, especially when so many details are being coordinated from afar.

Americans have been vacationing at Nags Head North Carolina since the 1830’s and with very good reason - the beach! The barrier islands that make up the Outer Banks, of which Nags Head is a part, have some of the best beaches in the country.

While walking beside the ocean, you get the feeling that the thin strand of sand goes on forever. (It really stretches 100 miles.) There’s the soothing rhythm of breaking waves on one side and tall sand dunes dotted with sea oats on the other.

I love vacation rentals.? I have a husband, 2 kids - and a couple dogs - so when we vacation it’s a moving department store/zoological park.? We are dragging around the favorite bunny for sleeping, the special pillow, extra pup treats and the video games.? That’s a bunch of junk to cram in your run-of-the-mill hotel room.? Vacation Rentals are the perfect alternative - there’s plenty of room, you can cook breakfast (or throw donuts at everyone, including the dogs) so you dont have to get up at 7am while you’re on VACATION.? Bonus points - they usually have a washer and dryer - and more than one TV.? It’s like being at home - but you’re not!? A vacation rental at the beach is a necessity - here’s why:

One of my family’s favorite beach-type pass times is shelling. We hit the beach and drag great gobs of different shells back to the vacation rental - only to be forced to leave 90% behind because we cant pack them all - or they smell funny.
I did find out you can clean seashells so they don’t smell - but picking up “dead shells” is your best bet for this, although that doesn’t guarantee they’ll be ’stink free’.

We’ve talked in the past about how “pet friendly” Hilton Head Island is - as a mom I feel I’m remiss in not mentioning all of the Hilton Head activities and attractions for Kids and Families!? Beyond the beach and digging in the sand, there are tons of things for kids to do in the area - things that are going to amuse mom and dad also.? Lets face it, a happy kid on vacation leads to happy moms and dad’s on vacation.

Has green travel as conceptualized today become narrow minded, shallow and embarrassingly self-congratulatory?

Over the last year, we have seen an incredible upsurge in ability to purchase anything and everything “green.”
The travel industry is not immune to the green phenomenon. Travelers are now urged to take photographs instead of souvenirs, to eat local, and of course, to offset the environmental impact of their cross-continental trip with carbon credits.

Having fallen into every one of these traps at least once, here are 7 mistakes to avoid for the newbies on the road.

I’m writing from behind the reception desk here at El Diablo Tranquilo hostel in Punta del Diablo, Uruguay.
Every day a new group of travelers arrives in this chill little beach town. Some are seasoned solo travelers, like the sea captain who cleaned out a group of earnest Swedes in Texas Hold ‘Em last night, or the Alaskan mountain guide who winters in South America. Others are backpackers, traveling in groups, red-faced under their massive mochillas.

Movies have the power to inspire, to take us on a trip without requiring us to get off the couch.

A scene from “O Brother Where Art Thou?”
One traveling garden gnome. A star-crossed couple on a sinking ocean liner. Eleven crooks on a European heist. And Bond??James Bond.
These are just four of the travelers who didn’t make it onto our roundup of the twenty greatest travel films of all time. Not because we didn’t like Amelie, Titanic, Ocean’s 11 or the Bond movies, mind you, but because we just didn’t have the space.

It’s that wonderful time of the week where I round up the latest and greatest that has caught my eye. Here’s your weekend reader:

Photo from Virgin Galactic
If you use your cellphone, the plane will crash. Cruise ships are all-inclusive. Recirculated cabin air on planes will make you sick. Just three of the busted travel myths in this article from Yahoo.
Jeff Nickles was so inspired by a BNT post, he wrote his top excuses for staying stuck in a travel rut.
