Wedding season arrives with a flourish in June each year and celebrating the union of family members or friends is often the impetus for summer travel.
If you’re very, very lucky, you may get an invitation to attend a Long Island wedding at The Inn at Fox Hollow this year. The famed Gold Coast of Long Island in New York was a favored retreat of the rich, famous and powerful in the early 20th century and Fox Hollow carries on the tradition of that opulent era with sophistication and elegance.

Northern California is a great place to get away to and the Mendocino area is without a doubt one of the best spots you can choose for a romantic weekend for two.
Start with a leisurely scenic drive from San Francisco north along the Pacific coast through the redwood forests and beside windswept coves. If you don’t have a convertible, rent one for the weekend. You want the mood to be perfect, don’t you?

Orlando, Florida isn’t just about The Mouse or The Movies. It’s not all about kid’s, either. The Orlando area boasts a host of eclectic annual events that are not to be missed. Here are a few favorites to consider:
Near the end of January (January 20-25 in 2009) party in the streets of Eaton (20 miles north of downtown Orlando) at the Zora Neale Hurston Festival of the Arts and Humanities for a week long celebration of African American artistry and culture.

Just a few miles off the coast of Massachusetts lies Martha’s Vineyard, an island that awaits anybody who is interested in kicking your feet up, putting your toes in the sand or just relaxing and getting away from it all. With the New England coast typically being rocky and rugged, Martha’s Vineyard paints a gentler coast line with a plethora of public beaches, state and historical beaches, harbors and lighthouses that symbolize and dot the New England coast. Public transportation can get you to most of the aforementioned beaches with some accessible by walking to from wherever you are staying on the island.

Outer Banks fishing is legendary. The barrier islands stick so far out into the Atlantic that the Gulf Stream is very close to the shore. The sea and the sound mix here, allowing anglers to land both saltwater and freshwater species. You have to be a very unlucky fisher person to go home empty handed on the Outer Banks.

While headboats or private charters can leave you with an experience you’ll long remember, pier fishing is the way to go if you have children or newbies in your group. No sea sickness, no slippery decks, restrooms instead of heads and you can leave when they’ve had enough.

Staying with a host family can be such a great experience, it’s hard to know how to thank your hosts properly.

The best memories of my recent trip to Ecuador come from the family in Quito that graciously opened their home to me.
After nearly two months of traveling, home-cooked meals and real beds with clean sheets were just what I needed. Plus, my host-family had lived in Quito for decades and were eager to share their city with me.

For every high-risk, adrenaline-seeking lifestyle, there are ten thousand high-risk injuries that might happen.

You??re in an out-of-the-way corner of Japan, enjoying a mid-morning ride on a cheaply purchased mountain bike, viewing a landscape that only so many places can offer.
A smoking volcano to the left, and a revolving sushi restaurant on the right, not yet open for the lunch crowd.

Are you addicted to tech? Photo by Adrian Sampson
As travelers, we like to think of ourselves as intrepid, independent, and adaptive. We forgo modern comforts in return for experiences and relationships that are difficult to find within our own societies.
Many of us are trying to find answers, find a purpose, or find ourselves, away from the ???noise??? of daily lives which have become mundane and unfulfilling.

The world is beautiful and harsh in all its infinite possibilities. Whenever I travel, what I call ???The Tramp and the Kid Doctrine??? guides me.

“You are a hobo,” declared my friend of a decade. I stared at her, perplexed, and racked my brains to figure out why she was calling me a bum.
Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I was planning a trip to Peru despite not having worked for several months.
