Tokyo Motor Show 2007

In the last few days, motor buffs have been arriving in Tokyo in their tens of thousands, as the 40th Tokyo Motor Show has returned to the Makuhari Messe in Chiba City, 40km from the Japanese capital. This event, one of the most important on the motor industry calendar, is a showcase of the latest and most dynamic machines of the future.

Tokyo Motor Show 2007

The show is hosted by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) and is a recognised international show by the industry’s leading body, the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles. It is a showcase of new cars currently in production and recently designed concept cars, yet the latter is more frequently seen at this event. In recent years, however, the Tokyo Motor Show is becoming widely renowned for displaying more flamboyant designs of concept cars, such as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, as shown in the photo.

Hidden Hope: A Visit To A Sri Lankan Tea Estate

Hidden Hope: A Visit To A Sri Lankan Tea Estate

Television news bombards us daily with images of global destruction, famine, disease, and wars.

No wonder we despair at the future mankind is forging for itself, one filled with hopelessness and religious fanatics hiding behind guns.

However, what the news does not show is a modified trend amongst the citizens of the world - a transfer from salvation to liberation; a change in mindset and taking responsibility, teaching other like-minded individuals by example.

What Does A Kiwi Have In Common With Luxury Travel?

What Does A Kiwi Have In Common With Luxury Travel?

Please note: This is a sponsored post.

For me, luxury travel usually means little more than clean sheets, hot water and black coffee in the morning. Camping on a beach or staying with local villagers makes me just as happy as sipping a cocktail next to an elegantly landscaped plunge pool.

But even though vagabonding travelers like me have been known to sneer at expensive luxury resorts and dismiss their pampered guests as out of touch with reality, I recognize that the luxury travel experience, done well, can be a beautiful thing.

Happy Birthday BNT! Our Top 10 Articles From Our First Year

Happy Birthday BNT! Our Top 10 Articles From Our First Year

1 year. 365 days. 52 weeks. Ummm…8760 hours?

You get the idea. It’s been a long time since I first created Brave New Traveler.

During that time I’ve met some amazing people, celebrated small milestones, and continued to plug away.

Some realizations: creating a sustainable blog model is much harder than it looks. It’s not like you can slap up some content (along with a strip or two of Google ads) and expect the money to roll in.

A Luxury Travel Option that Makes Financial Sense

A Luxury Travel Option that Makes Financial Sense

(ARA) ??“ Whether vacationing domestically or internationally, traveling produces priceless moments. But as much as we cherish the unforgettable memories, in reality, these vacations can cost thousands of dollars for you and your family. Many luxury travelers are left wanting more than a room at a lavish hotel or the hassles of second-home ownership. More people are finding the vacations they desire through destination clubs, an option that makes financial sense.

9 Things I Learned About Travel Writing At Book Passage

In August 2007, travel journalist Eva Holland attended the Book Passage Travel Writers and Photographers Conference in Corte Madera, CA. In this article, Eva shares practical tips dished out by the professional Book Passage faculty of travel writers and editors.

Book Passage was a blast.

How To Handle The Guilt Of Your Over-Consumptive Culture

How To Handle The Guilt Of Your Over-Consumptive Culture

Everything takes getting used to.

Whether it??™s sleeping on the street with your family, saying ???no??™ to beggars, fasting for days, functioning with dysentery, or even something so simple as casting off one??™s attachment to toilet paper.

The most important lesson I learned in India is that (for better or worse) human beings can adapt to anything.

San Telmo Fair, Buenos Aires

San Telmo Fair, Buenos Aires

San Telmo is one of the oldest districts in Buenos Aires. It was originally inhabited by the richest families in the city, who built wonderful architectural masterpieces as their homes. But in 1870 an outbreak of yellow fever forced them to seek residency elsewhere, and their mansions were converted into conventillos (boarding houses for the poor), with each one housing up to five families.

Nowadays you can still appreciate the beauty of this colonial-age architecture, and many of the buildings are now occupied by artists and craftsmen. In fact, it is the lively atmosphere and tango of San Telmo that attracts tourists from all over the world.

(NC)-If you’re stuck for summer vacation ideas or can’t get the family to agree on a destination, why not try a virtual trip first?

A recent survey found that travel information sites and queries for directions and maps are among the most popular Internet searches. And there’s certainly no lack of sites, with everything from virtual tours of the hotel room you want to book, right through to the discount vacation broker.

Why The GDP Says Little About Authentic Happiness

Why The GDP Says Little About Authentic Happiness

Is there a link between monetary wealth and quality of life?

I pose this question because mainstream economic theory and the policies promoted by international ???development??? institutions such as the World Bank, IMF and WTO, government agencies such as USAID, various UN programs, and the majority of NGOs assume that monetary wealth and human well-being are tightly coupled, even synonymous.
