Laptop Travel: 16 Essential Items To Include In Your Pack

This is Part II in our series on Laptop Travel. Read Part I here.

So now that you’ve got your perfect travel laptop picked out, what are you going to take with it?

Here’s a run-down of accessories you’re going to want in your pack before heading off into the great unknown.

1. Charger. A no-brainer really, but it’s got to be on the list. The best thing about laptops is that because the wall charger has to convert AC to DC for the computer to work, they almost always have a voltage converter. Meaning it will work fine whether you’re in London, New York, Tokyo, or Delhi.

Vuelta a Espa?“?±a 2007

Vuelta a Espa?“?±a 2007

We are now in the final stages of the annual cycling competition, “La Vuelta a Espa?a”, one of the three Grand Tours of the cycling world. Featuring the world’s top cyclists, this three-week long tour, covering more than 3,000 km (1,864 miles) is divided into 14 stages of thrilling races, the last of which will end on September 23rd.

Inspired by the famous races of the forementioned France, and also Italy, the first Vuelta a Espa?a took place in 1935, and was hailed a great success. The tour took a break between 1936 and 1939 due to the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, before returning in 1941. However, the influence of World War II was too much for the neutral Spain, and the tournament was once again delayed until 1945.

Lodging Recommendations-Moab, Utah

One of the toughest things about visiting Moab is deciding how and where to stay. While the? burg? often seems like a ghost town during the day, don’t let it fool you into thinking there are a lot of vacancies. It’s only because all the visitors are out exploring. By sundown, all the restaurants are packed and it’ll be hard to find a place to sleep if you don’t have advanced reservations.

In Town

Do not believe everything you see or read on the internet, because unfortunately, a lot of the motels in downtown Moab are pretty much dumps. This does serve a? demand? by low budget travelers, but not everyone wants to pay $100 or more a night for a shabby room, even if they can cram 4-6 people into it. If you’re looking for a decent room, try one of the newer hotels along 191 north of town. They only cost a little more and you’ll be much happier with the facilities.

Dumpster Diving: The Easiest Way To Find Free Food

Dumpster Diving: The Easiest Way To Find Free Food

Hunger is a necessary experience of travel (and life). When blessed with a budget, there is very little fear of hunger.

It is commonplace in a strange land, on a strange form of transportation that might last for days, to wonder when you’ll stop for your next meal.

True, the local markets do provide wonderfully, as with the vendors along the streets and the friendly strangers who invite you in to quench your thirst, and hopefully (cross your fingers), feed you.

Are You Rude to Islanders?

As travelers our goal is to explore new lands and meet the local residents of those lands while living in their natural environments complete with their customs, traditions, and rules.?  Our goal, to blend in and learn; not to change, shape, or disrespect.

Here is some island etiquette from Islands Magazine.

During a “Meet and Greet” scenario in:

Bali

AVOID pointing with your index finger or patting children on the head.?  In Bali culture the head is a sacred part of the body.

Fiji Islands

When entering a village, bring a gift of Kava to present to the chief as a “sevusevu”.?  This is a ceremonial offering.

Tales From The Road: Mexico, Mt. Everest, Ladakh, and Haunted Motel Rooms

Tales From The Road: Mexico, Mt. Everest, Ladakh, and Haunted Motel Rooms

This week Tales From the Road travels from the summit of Everest to motel room floors haunted by ghosts of dead rock stars, from the high desert of Ladakh to a lonesome highway in Chiapas.

These stories celebrate the joy of spontaneity, channeling the blazing roman candle spirit of Jack Kerouac, but they also take time to consider deeper themes: the effects of economic globalization on traditional culture and the proper place for trust and fear.

A History Of Why People Travel

A History Of Why People Travel

Ever notice how when you sit still for a few hours without moving, you suddenly get up and find your legs are cramped, or asleep, or feel tense?

That’s because they’re not meant to be still…at least not for long. We’re meant to move. Our limbs have to be in motion almost constantly.

Humans have always been on the move. Our skeletons and muscle structures have evolved to facilitate gathering our food, escaping from predators, and to satisfy our animal curiosity.

Colorado Riverway Scenic Byway

In an area with 2 geology-rich National Parks and weird? rock formations? waiting to startle you around every corner, it’s no surprise that the very scenic Utah State Highway 128 doesn’t get much attention in the tour books and travel guides.? However, ? if you’re driving from I-70 south into Moab, Utah? don’t miss this amazing drive. It beats the main route into Moab hands down.
